Nikki Riesel

Independent Consultant Mental Health accredited Social Worker

Nikki sees adults and young adults, and is available Wednesdays & Fridays from mid-March

Nikki is a Mental Health accredited Social Worker, who is skilled in, and passionate about, working with people experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, varying from short term stressors to chronic difficulties. She takes a flexible, client-centred, strength-based approach to her practice, adapting her work to meet each client’s needs. Nikki has a personal and warm style, empowering clients to work towards and achieve their goals. She works to bring passion, genuineness and openness to the therapy space, allowing clients to feel safe, seen, heard, valued and empowered.

Nikki integrates evidence-based therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Exposure Therapy,  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, and is trained in Specialist Supportive Clinical Management for eating disorders. She is passionate about supporting people with eating disorders and is also skilled in working with those who have experienced trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), self esteem and body image difficulties, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, challenges with self soothing and emotion regulation, and identity/sexuality difficulties.

Qualifications and Memberships

Nikki completed a Bachelor of Social Work with Honours at the University of New South Wales and is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers. She trained at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital’s Peter Beumont Unit, focusing on the treatment of Eating Disorders, where she worked closely with consumers within an inpatient setting. Nikki has worked extensively at Sutherland Hospital Community Mental Health service in the youth team, both with outpatients and consumers in inpatient settings, and has facilitated in-service presentations in collaboration with the Butterfly Foundation.
